Luxury Riad of Palais Faraj: an authentic life style of Morocco

The wonder attached to the luxury riad of Palais Faraj is first of all to offer you the harmonious score of a traditionnal art de vivre of Morocco, and to let you glimpse all the quintessence of Moroccan craftsmanship. Zelliges, woodwork, carpets, chiseled plasterwork and a central fountain around orange trees: Fez appears more imperial than ever.

Derived from the Arabic word "رياض" which means "garden", its architecture is therefore based on the tradition of interior gardens, very widespread in Morocco, signing the historical mark of the houses of the rich merchants and traders of the province: the layout of the riads door today throughout the Kingdom of Morocco the signature of large luxury guest houses, designed for the pleasure of local and foreign travelers.

Located within the walls of the ancient city, the "medina", the structure of a riad is centered on an enclosed space inside, preventing both the heat and the noise from the streets.

Opening to the sky or an open ceiling, its interior courtyard is decorated with colorful traditional mosaics called "Zellij" and highlighted by ceramic fountains in the center, with plants, trees and flowers all around.

Architecture

A luxury Riad in accordance with Muslim conception

If the style of Riads has evolved over the years towards a more modern and simpler style, the same overall structure is still present in the current design.

In terms of architecture, unlike ordinary houses whose openings face the outside, the windows of riads are always oriented towards the interior courtyard and the garden, not only to ensure the privacy of the family, in accordance with Muslim conception privacy, but also to protect it from climate change.

This inward orientation and the absence of large exterior windows further highlight the central garden, structured by four different squares of plants and trees, often orange or lemon trees, surrounding the central fountain, for shade in summer, fruits in autumn and to perfume the air in spring.
